HERSONISSOS
CLIMATE - CRETE - GREECE
Hersonissos
has a typical Mediterranean climate with average annual air temperatures around
25 ° C. During tourist season the weather is quite stable, with clear or very
few clouds and temperatures around 30 ° C. In the hot summer months like July
and August, the air temperature can reach 35 ° C in the shade.
Thunderstorms
may accur sometimes, but these storms usually don't last more than one day.
The
highest temperatures are in the southern region of Greece, especially in Crete
and the Cyclades: sometimes over 40 ° C during the summer months. The most
significant amounts of rainfall have been recorded in northwest Greece, in Corfu
island area during the winter months.
Most
tourists visit Hersonissos to enjoy the sun and the waves. From late April to
late November, the water temperature here is around 20-25 ° C. During the
summer months a nice cool wind called the Meltemi accurs in Hersonissos. This
wind makes the high temperatures and sunshine on the beach more bearable. In August
a hot wind that locals call "livas" - or (in translation) "Libyan
blows from the south of Africa."
In
Crete, the largest island of Greece, summers are dry and hot, and winters are
mild and rainy. Crete is one of the sunniest islands in the Mediterranean. Temperatures
are very pleasant here all year, except December, when it's cold. In January and
February the weather is springlike, temperatures reaching up to about 18 °
C. At night, however, possible decreases in temperature below zero may accur.
In March summer starts with temperatures reaching 30 ° C. Crete is an excellent
destination for holiday spending almost all year round. In July and August when
temperatures can reach 40 ° C, only true lovers of heat and hot summers dare
to visit Crete.
Quick
useful information
Crete
is much more than an island, it is a micro continent. There are few places in
the world where you can find such a vast array of cultural influences within such
a relatively small geographical area. The area is also blessed with an amazing
variety of terrain which contributes both to the wealth of fresh local agricultural
products available as well as the wide range of outdoor activities that can be
enjoyed here.
